Two nurses from Mary Washington Healthcare named heroes, honored for their work | Health, Med. & Fitness
Sarah Weaver has been described as a calming influence on patients and their families, the kind of nurse who “rushes in to help her companion without hesitation.” A colleague called Becky McLaughlin’s enthusiasm for nursing contagious as she strives to improve the knowledge and practices of nurses that lead to better outcomes.
The two nurses from Mary Washington Healthcare were named “McHero Nurse of the Year 2021” by Welburn Management, a local McDonald’s franchise. After Eileen Dohmann, chief health care nurse, put the superhero “McCapes” around their shoulders, nurses were recently honored at the Fredericksburg Nationals stadium.
âBecky and Sarah are great nurses,â Dohmann said. âThey have each done an outstanding job representing the more than 2,000 MWHC nurses who faithfully serve our community every day. “
She also thanked the Nationals fans who made them “feel so special and celebrated.”
Weaver has been a nurse at Stafford Hospital for five years and works as a surgical unit team leader. McLaughlin has worked in the healthcare system since 2005 and works in the Mary Washington Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
Colleagues named the nurses for the McDonald’s honor. The author of Weaver’s proposal said that she âalways draws inspiration from patients and appropriately reports issues to physician and nurse supervisors when concerned. She provides appropriate advice to patients and tries to calm situations as needed by reassuring patients and their families. She is always aware of what is happening on the floor and readily steps in to help her fellow nurses. “
