MANCHESTER, England — Erling Haaland is back home.

The Norwegian striker completed a move to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund on Monday for 60 million euros ($63 million) to seal his return to his native England.

His father, Alf-Inge, played for City in the Premier League from 2000 to 2003 and Erling supported the club as a child. He posted pictures on social media of himself wearing a City shirt as a young boy.

“It’s a proud day for me and my family. I’ve always watched City and loved doing it over the last few seasons,” Haaland said. “You can’t help but admire their style of play – it’s exciting – and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me.”

Haaland, considered one of the best young players in the world along with Kylian Mbappe, joins on a five-year deal. City have activated the release clause in Haaland’s Dortmund contract and appear to be getting a superstar on the cheap.

“We’ve been watching Erling for a number of years now, so we’re delighted to bring him here to Manchester City,” said the club’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain.

“He’s a huge talent and he’s been one of the best strikers in Europe in recent seasons. His goalscoring record is outstanding and his performances at Borussia Dortmund and in the Champions League in particular have proven he can succeed in the game. Erling has everything we want in a striker, and we are sure he will excel in this team and this system.

Haaland scored 20 goals in 21 appearances for Norway and netted 86 goals in 89 games in two and a half seasons with Dortmund. Before that, he was in Molde in Norway and Salzburg in Austria.

He joins the English champions and will look to guide Pep Guardiola’s side to the Champions League title for the first time next season.

“There are so many world-class players in this team and Pep is one of the greatest managers of all time, so I think I’m in the right place to fulfill my ambitions,” he said. “I want to score goals, win trophies and improve as a footballer and I’m confident I can do that here. It’s a great decision for me and I can’t wait to start pre-season.
